Come and see the Battalion in action this weekend at the annual Feast of St. Claire in Port Huron Michigan.  I’ll let the event’s official site describe it…

“Every year a special committee of the Port Huron Museum of Arts and History presents a living re-enactment of 18th centry life on Memorial Day weekend. This Open to the Public event consists of over 600 re-enactors with more than 100 colonial style camps set up in beautiful Pine Grove Park (on the St Clair river) in Port Huron, Michigan. This year will be the 31st consecutive year for this very informative and educational event.”

Come check us out if your looking for something to do this weekend.  Its worth braving the weather for.

Centinel John TimberlakeIt is with the greatest lament and condolences that I must inform you all that one of the most loved members of the Massachusetts Provincial Battalion, John Timberlake of Ohio, passed away in his sleep on a business trip in a motel room March 8, 2011.  John was a member of the organization beginning since 1995!  John is survived by his wife Lori and two sons and a daughter.  His son Paul, who is a past member also of Bagley’s Regiment also called me to tell me the news.

JOHN YOU WILL BE GREATLY MISSED BY YOUR FRIENDS.

John was always a great supporter of the unit and could always be counted on to give his opinion!  Say hello to Col. Bagley for us!  We ALL salute you John.  God Bless you John…A true and dear friend.

Here is a neat video of last year’s Stoney Creek Event.  Those gentlemen in the blue coats are mighty handsome if I do say so myself.

In 1757 Robert Rodgers wrote a set of 28 rules for his Rangers to follow in conducting irregular warfare against the French and their Indian allies. These rules became a model for all the Ranger and Light Infantry units that followed in American military history. They are still taught to US Army Rangers today. In the Massachusetts Battalion, these rules are followed as operational guidelines by Partridge’s Light Infantry. After each rule we will translate them into modern terms and explain how they apply to our portrayal.

Colonel Jonathan Bagley’s 3rd Massachusetts Regiment

By

Brenton C. Kemmer

In 1990, I had been participating in living history for over a dozen years.  I had started out portraying a fur trader of the 1830s and had moved into the colonial period portraying a French militiaman, Rogers’ Rangers and a grenadier and light infantryman of the 42 Regiment of Foot.  I was not satisfied in my reenacting and was looking for something that for myself and my son as he would grow up would be more gratifying for us and something that was not being portrayed; something new and exciting.

The Battalion just completed another successful event and had another great weekend at the Feast of St. Clair.  The heat was tolerable and the event organizers and the city of Port Huron are always nice to us.  It was a great start to a new season of re-enacting.  In addition to the dedication of the new battalion colors (see below) I hope to post some more pictures as they come in.

The next event for the Battalion is the Feast of the Strawberry Moon on Harbor Island in Grand Haven, Michigan.  The Feast of Strawberry Moon takes place on Saturday June 12th and Sunday June 13th.  You can find out more and see a gallery of past Strawberry Moon pictures at the Tri-Cities Historical Museum website.
